Lyndhurst beat East Hanningfield & Great Burstead by 4 wickets

Match Report

A great effort from Lyndhurst led to a deserved victory, succesfully chasing 205 against the old adversaries, East Hanningfield.

The fielding was very good, with Kieran's run-out capping some top-notch ground fielding. The 7 or 8 shelled catches need to be looked at, however. The openers, Kieran and Liam, both bowled very well and could have had three wickets each were it not for some butterfingers in the field! Despite a great start from those two, the Hanningfield number four was let off several times on his way to 96 not out, with a couple of middle order bashers profiting from Stefan's bad luck. 10-3 turned into 205-7.

Stefan started off in typically speculative style, bludgeoning one from miles outside off to the mid-on boundary, before getting trapped in front for LBW. James wasn't long after, bringing JJ to the crease. When Jeff spooned a rank ball to point, little Liam joined the fun, but departed soon after following an unlucky inside edge onto the stumps. Big Liam was next (going in ahead of George who was half way through a fag), and he and JJ enjoyed a record fifth-wicket partnership for Lyndhurst of 129. 64-4 became 193-4 when Liam's invaluable 31 of solid defence and majestic attacking strokes came to an end - the match was turned around. George couldn't see the ball and edged to slip, but Kieran came in to see Lyndhurst safely home with JJ 116 not out, including five 6s. This innings was duly celebrated with jugs of beer and then Nando's (chicken pitta, medium, with halloumi, peri-peri chips and spicy rice since you asked).

Lyndhurst have chased well this year - this was their second 200+ win which is no mean feat and says a lot for the improvement of the team. On another day we may have crumbled but the cup was retained (which is lucky since we didn't bring it back from last year!) and everybody went home happy!
