Lyndhurst beat Potter Street & Church Langley by 6 wickets

Match Report

Lyndhurst opened their account for the season with a dominant 6-wicket win at old rivals Potter Street and Church Langley.

Fielding first, Lyndhurst produced the kind of fielding performance for which they are gaining a reputation - dogged, clinical, fearsome. Combined with an outfield more appropriate for grazing cows than hitting fours, runs for the Potter Street batsmen were at a premium. Kieran used the pitch well to remove their key man along with two others, and despite some resistance, wickets fell at regular intervals, with Fuller picking up two with some flighty off-spin, two for Liam and a wicket apiece for Matthew and Kurt. The outstanding moment in the field this week was a clean pickup and direct one-stump hit from James at extra cover, but he was not rewarded thanks to some questionable umpiring.

Set 123 to win, Alfie started confidently and Jeff started steadily in the fashion typical of the pair. On 28 Alfie was bowled by a peach which jagged back a mile and loanee Dib was solid but unspectacular in his resistance. Jeff outlasted both and was eventually dismissed for 42 following a partnership with JJ which almost saw Lyndhurst home. However Little Liam came in and steadied the ship and the chase was complete with overs to spare.

The result provided a welcome return to winning ways for Lyndhurst and hopefully a platform upon which to build for the rest of the season.
