Thurrock beat Lyndhurst by 12 runs

Match Report

Once again Lyndhurst failed with the bat to spoil a sterling performance in the field.

On a track that harboured no demons, it was poor batting from both sides which meant the match was over before 40 overs had been bowled. Lyndhurst were put into the field on a hot day, and it was with great determination that they steamed through the Thurrock line-up. When Kieran went for 12 from his first over, it looked like it might be a long day, but once he tightened his lines, the pressure built, and the rash shots began. Kenny profited, picking up both openers in a tight spell to get his Lyndhurst account underway. The change bowlers, JJ and Liam, both chipped in, with a crippled Kurt hobbling from slip like Quasimodo to take a stunning low catch from Liam's bowling. James and Deano came on and bowled with great accuracy, taking the remaining three wickets to clear up the tail.

If Lyndhurst could be proud of their bowling and fielding, the batting performance was one to forget. With Jeff on holiday and Alfie in hospital after cracking his tooth on a chicken strip, Jas was drafted in late to shore up the batting. However he, along with Liam and JJ, failed to get in. Speedy justified his promotion to 4 with a steely 16 and James top-scored with a typically aggressive 24. But this would prove not enough, as the wickets kept tumbling. 12 shy of their target, Kenny was last man out, and Kev notched up yet another not-out!

The story of the season has been failure with the bat for Lyndhurst. Yet again a great fielding performance has not led to a victory. With a two week break now the players have a chance to regroup and prepare for the business end of the season, starting with Abridge.
