Rainham beat Lyndhurst by 73 runs

Match Report

Lyndhurst's 2013 campaign ended with a whimper as they were comfortably defeated by Rainham.

Stand-in skipper JJ failed miserably at his first task of the day, losing the toss and being put into the field on a deck which deteriorated through the day. Kurt had, until this point in the season, managed to keep his friendship with a lightning fast bowler a secret, but Sammons was duly brought in for the last game and hit the ground running by yorking Rainham opener Sid Patel for a cheap dismissal.

The momentum wouldn't continue, however, as Rainham's top order got stuck into one of Rainham's poorer bowling performances this season. Wickets came rarely, and Rainham piled on the runs to reach 240-5, with a returning Chay the pick of the bowling, taking 2-22 from his 4 over stint. Matthew put his newfound hip flexibility to use with a tidy spell, but Chay duly informed the team that his passion now lies in the Zumba classroom, a headband shielding the eyes from his buoyant curls, short shorts exposing most of his thighs, surrounded by sweaty gyrating women.

Lyndhurst never looked like threatening the target despite some stern resistance from Jeff, who dropped down the order to 4, prompting cries of "this man should open!" from Stefan. He finished 86 not out. As Rainham wickets fell and the result was beyond doubt, all of the buzz in the crowd concerned Kev and his undismissed streak... would he get a bat? If he did, would he smash a quick 50 to win the game or block out to maintain the air of invincibility with which he is currently enshrouded? As it turned out, he had clearly threatened to cut his son out of his will if the younger K. Gallacher was dismissed. At least that's what it felt like watching Kieran crawl like a wounded animal to 4 not out from 40 balls.

Rainham had failed to dismiss Lyndhurst, which didn't look likely at some points, so it's a credit to Jeff and Kieran that they reached 163 for 7. This wasn't a close game and Lyndhurst didn't do themselves justice. The results from the season don't make impressive reading but that doesn't tell the full story of close games, ups, downs, brilliance mixed with comedy and plenty of enjoyable cricket.

Weeks without Kev being dismissed: 17!!
