Thurrock beat Lyndhurst by 17 runs.

Match Report

Lyndhurst arrived to Thurrocks ground on a cloudy and overcast day in high spirits and eager to play. After winning the toss, skipper Jeff Richards made the decision to put Lyndhurst in the field. Lyndhurst made off to a great start taking an early wicket off Kierans bowling thanks to a fantastic catch from Andy Speed. Another wicket from Stefan followed shortly and Lyndhurst had put themselves in a strong position. Through the run-up to drinks some good bowling from Stefan, Kieran, Matthew and Michael as well as some tight fielding from the team meant Thurrocks runs were restricted. As the rain started to fall fielding became increasingly difficult and with the Thurrocks batsman beginning to pick up the run rate Lyndhurst were soon working hard in the field. Solid bowling from Stefan gave him 2 wickets each while Matthew and Kieran also picked up a wicket each. Thurrock finished on a challenging 238 for 6. Fielding mentions to James in the gully, Michael in deep cover and Speedy with his magic single handed stops.

Coming out to bat Lyndhurst knew they had to work hard. Things didnt start as smoothly as hoped with Dave being run out early in the innings for a duck. Jeff managed 33 in his usual pace of run scoring joined by James who witnesses have reported played 3 defensive shots in a row, Yes 3, finishing up on 24 after being caught by a exceptional catch from one of the Thurrock fielders. Michael replaced James and proceeded to start a wonderful display of batting. Jeff started to hit out and after hitting his last two balls for 4 (his only 4s) was caught. Andy replaced Jeff scoring some quick singles finishing on 13 before getting bored, retiring and going home for a bath. Liam then came out to bat scoring 24 playing some quality shots finishing not out with Michael who managed to score a total of 113 runs not out consisting of 14 4s and 3 6s. Through Michaels control, accuracy and a lot of patience he managed to score his first ton!! SHAA BASH MATE!!! .

Despite Lyndhursts best efforts we finished on 221 runs for 3 wickets. A loss of 17 runs. A great effort by all!
