Rankins beat Lyndhurst by 17 runs

Match Report

This was another conference fixture against a team we have not played before. We arrived late after getting lost to a lovely looking secluded ground. The pitch looked a batsman's paradise. We only had 10 men so Rankins kindly lent us a youth player. Lyndhurst lost the toss and we were put into the field.

The pitch was slower than it looked but played very well. The entire team bowled well with stand out performances from George and JJ. A very pleasing point was the catching of our younger players. James caught a stunner at backward point and Matthew and Ryan took good catches as well.

Rankins closed their innings on a chaseable 214-9.

Our chase started well with Jeff and Alfie getting us to 70 before falling in quick succession. A middle order collapse left us looking in trouble and when George fell to a ball that burrowed underground things looked really bad. Stefan and JJ then rallied with a 50 plus partnership. When Stefan was out I came to the wicket and with JJ playing the ball to all parts things started looking good. When JJ was out we still needed more than 50 but with plenty of overs. A heroic partnership between myself and Andy looked like getting us there until Andy fell with 2 overs left leaving us 17 runs short, but with a very respectable 197 all out.
